Sometimes, life reminds us not to judge people solely by what we hear about them. When I recently shifted to my new home in India, everyone in the neighborhood warned me about my next-door neighbor. They described him as a rude, mentally ill man who never allowed anyone to park near his house, kept all the fruit from his trees to himself, and whose wife and children had left him. During my last visit, I simply greeted him with a smile and said, "I see so many mangoes on your tree. My daughter loves mangoes. If you get any, please give me some." He smiled, agreed, and introduced himself. I didn't think much of it afterward. Three months later, during this vacation, as I was getting into a taxi to visit a temple, he walked up carrying a bag full of mangoes and said, "You asked me that day." I was genuinely surprised because I had never expected him to remember. That small act reminded me of something beautiful: when we choose kindness over judgment, we often discover the goodness that others never get the chance to show. Sometimes, a little warmth is all it takes for kindness to find its way back to us.
Here is the bag of Mangoes he gave me.
